Marissa Loya Acupuncture

Marissa Loya is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine (New Mexico) and a Nationally Certified Diplomat of Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is a graduate of MSCD in Denver with a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Health, as well as a graduate of Southwest Acupuncture College with a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine. Marissa has studied traditional Chinese medicine and herbology, as well as courses in orthopedic acupuncture and sports medicine acupuncture that include assessment and electro acupuncture techniques. She has also enjoyed a long career as a licensed massage therapist.

Marissa currently practices orthopedic acupuncture combined with manual massage and other techniques. After practicing acupuncture for a couple of years, she still felt like her treatments were not as effective as they could be. Marissa then discovered orthopedic acupuncture and took Whitfield Reeves Sports Medicine Acupuncture Apprenticeship. After this introduction, she then went deeply into studies with Dr. Anthony Lombardi of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. This is where the combination of testing specific muscles and then applying treatment became the premier style of treatment for her. Combining the testing, acupuncture and soft tissue work not only has incredible results, it combines the years of studies that Marissa has put into her education.

Marissa enjoys working on complex structural issues with great results in pain reduction.  Many orthopedic conditions such as sciatica, neck and low back pain, rotator cuff injuries, tennis and golfer’s elbow, and plantar fasciitis are treated with this style of acupuncture. The treatments are a great fit with current physical therapy sessions or pre and post-surgery.
